Bell Mobility’s Finder Services use Assisted GPS (AGPS) and Cell Site Location Technology to provide our customers with increased safety and convenience. As a leader in North American Location Based Services deployment, Bell Mobility can provide access to these technologies through a standards based platform that is commercially available today. AGPS is currently available through a wide variety of wireless phones and PDAs and will continue to be supported in all new Bell Mobility wireless phones and PDAs going forward.
The Benefits of developing applications using Bell Mobility’s Location Technology
Leverage the investment customers have made in their Bell Mobility wireless device by developing applications using Bell Mobility’s Location Technology. Bell Mobility currently offers a wide variety of AGPS wireless devices and will continue to provide support in all new devices. Today, nearly 25% of all Bell Mobility customers own an AGPS wireless device.
Access to wireless device positioning within a few seconds - Use Cell Site location technology to locate any Bell Mobility wireless device.
Access to Location Technology that is more reliable and precise than traditional GPS solutions – AGPS combines GPS, CDMA Network Triangulation (AFLT) and Cell Site Location Technology to offer :
- Unmatched availability providing location fixes in a wide variety of environments (i.e. urban, indoors)
- Faster time to first fix than traditional GPS (within 10-30 seconds for all fixes)
Simplified access to a variety of location technologies by specifying the degree of accuracy in the location request – the LBS platform will determine the appropriate technology to provide the best possible location fix to meet your needs.
How does Cell Site technology work?
Today’s technology narrows down the location of a wireless device using the cellular transmission site in contact with the customer’s wireless device. The position of the wireless device is provided in a latitude & longitudinal coordinate along with the accuracy of the result. Accuracy in urban areas is typically between 400m to 2500m and will vary by location.
How does Assisted GPS (AGPS) work?
AGPS combines the accuracy of GPS technology, CDMA Network Triangulation (AFLT) and Cell Site Location Technology. This ensures wireless devices can be found with more reliability than traditional GPS services, even in the most challenging environments. Bell Mobility’s AGPS solution will first attempt to use GPS satellites to locate the Assisted GPS Ready wireless device (within 150m in most circumstances) and if unsuccessful will begin to fall back on a variety of network based location technologies.
What about Privacy & Security?
